ONE TO THE POWER OF SEVEN: Save seven lives by becoming an organ donor

Category Corporate Social Responsibility

Did you know that a single person can potentially save as many as seven lives by registering as an organ donor?

That’s a pretty significant way to be a superhero, without even having to wear a cape!

Leapfrog Property Group has aligned itself to the Organ Donor Foundation to raise awareness about the wonderful work this organisation does.

The Organ Donor Foundation of South Africa (ODF) was established in 1988 as a national non-profit and public benefit organisation to address the critical shortage of organ and tissue donors in South Africa. Their work is centred around awareness and education campaigns aimed at encouraging the public to consent to becoming organ donors by signing up to the national database.

As part of Leapfrog’s ongoing commitment to utilising its network and resources to support causes that uplift and empower people and communities, the group decided to partner with ODF to support them in their commendable efforts to save lives through organ and tissue donation.

“The Organ Donor Foundation is excited about the collaboration and we are extremely grateful to Leapfrog Property Group. We know this partnership will spread our life-saving message of organ and tissue donation and encourage many individuals to register as organ and tissue donors through our combined efforts with Leapfrog,” says Samantha Nicholls of the ODF.

CALLING ALL SUPERHEROES

Leapfrog is challenging all their agents, affiliates, friends, family and members of the public to join this worthy cause by signing up to become an organ and tissue donor.

“We’re proud to be associated with the Organ Donor Foundation, an organisation that does remarkable work that literally saves lives and want to encourage everybody to join us in making a difference,” says Bruce Swain, CEO of Leapfrog Property Group.

The process is as simple as visiting the Leapfrog website and filling in your details, thus granting your consent to become a donor. It takes just five minutes to register to save seven lives!

Leapfrog offices around the country will also serve as registration points and depots for the collection of documents and stickers confirming your new (superhero) status.

EVERYBODY CAN BE A LIFE SAVER

Any person who is in good health and clear of defined chronic diseases may become an organ and tissue donor. Medical conditions do not necessarily preclude somebody from becoming an organ and tissue donor. The suitability of the organs and tissue for transplant will be established at time of death.

The heart, liver and pancreas can save three lives, while kidneys and lungs can help up to four people. Tissue that can be donated include corneas, skin, bone, tendons and heart valves, which can help up to 50 people.

LADIES FIRST

Curiously, some 76% of registered organ donors are women. While the reason for this is indeterminable, Leapfrog wants to challenge men in particular to add their details to the donor database in droves.

Come on guys, we know you want to join us in making a life-changing difference in somebody’s life.
