The house was built in the early 1900’s for its original owner, before being purchased by Braam’s father, an attorney who was later to become a judge and judge president. At that stage the house, which had originally been of red face brick, was plastered and painted white . The original wooden verandah posts and railings were replaced with the neo classical columns that we see today.
The house as proclaimed a National Monument on account of its associations with Bram Fischer, and the fact that it is one of the last remaining examples of a Westdene house of 120 years ago.
