About the area
Mr J.A van der Byl, who bought the Irene estate in 1896, proclaimed Irene a township in 1902. Before Irene Property, it was the site of one of the Burgher refugees’ camps or Concentration camps where the British housed the Boer women and children in tents, after, their homes had been destroyed in the Anglo Boer war.
In Irene Property, city dwellers are amazed to find the meadow-like environment and uncomplicated lifestyle. Today Irene is officially part of the Tshwane municipality area. Even though the population has grown considerably, neighbours still know each other and find time to visit and have conversations, in a relaxed and safe environment.
